LOCI 711: Construction : Construing

A modern sustainable addition in a Savannah historic district.

This building is generated by the craftsmanship of risk innate in the building process. The proposal was a response to environment, siting and program which welcomed constructional error, ambiguity and choice as the catalyst for responsive design. In this way, the design is a collaboration between designer and craftsman.

Repurposed vinyl billboards are used inside and out as a vehicle to explore the de-commodification of image toward a site specific application encouraging the ambiguity between form, image, meaning and surface.

The drawings on the concrete floor are in response to arbitrary spills which provided an opportunity to record error and use it as the beginning of a dialogue between space, form and surface text.
